We are taking a break from AWANA during the fall semester to focus on a church-wide initiative to study and pursue the purpose and nature of the Church. You and your children are welcome to join us for this study.
What is AWANA?
AWANA is a fantastic ministry that is geared toward teaching children the value of hiding God’s Word in their hearts(). Each week your child will be challenged by God’s Word and encouraged to learn more about Him. They will also have a blast as they enjoy games designed specifically for their age group.
The name AWANA stands for “Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed”, from – “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the Word of Truth.”
Through AWANA we hope to help your child memorize God’s Word and come to faith in Jesus Christ. Then we want to help you disciple them so that they can grow in their faith. It is important to us that we are helping you disciple your children, not discipling them for you. Here at Northside we believe that God has called you, the parent, to be the primary spiritual leader in your child’s life. Our desire is to help you in that process and we believe that AWANA is a great resource for you.
Here are a few ways that you can help your child grow in their knowledge and faith in the Lord through the AWANA ministry:
– Help your child learn their handbook sections!
– Show an interest in your child’s achievements!
– Encourage your child to come prepared each week!
– Tell us how we can help you!
That last one is key. We cannot stress enough how much we want to help you. Let us know how we can improve what we are doing and minister to your family more completely. In order for you to be more familiar with what will take place each week during AWANA we have included an explanation of each segment of the evening.
Description of Club Segments
Opening Ceremony is when we welcome the clubbers to the night and present awards from the previous week. We want to celebrate their accomplishments and encourage them to keep working.
Handbook Time is when the clubber recites the sections they have learned to their leaders. During this time your child will have the opportunity to recite the verses he/she has learned or work toward memorizing new material.
Large Group Time is when the Gospel is presented. Clubbers meet together are challenged to grow spiritually through Bible teaching and illustration.
Game Time is the most fun time for all clubbers. They participate in games just for their age level for fun, to develop good sportsmanship, and to encourage clubbers to work as a team.
Our club is currently for children that are 3 years old and potty trained through 5th grade. To register your child please call 668-4777. If you have any questions about our AWANA ministry, now or in the future, please feel free to contact us and ask. It would be our pleasure to answer them for you.
